On Saturday 9th, 2017, YFM and LUCAS College came together to announce the lucky winners of the YFM Scholarship Competition. Eager candidates from all over the country applied but when all was said and done, Ebenezer Agorhom, Bernard Otchere, Eric Fordjour and Prosper Nunoo came out as the fortunate winners.
Launched on August 24th, Ycares, the CSR branch of YFM, and LUCAS College created the Scholarship competition to help ambitious students pursue their educational dreams. As Paul Danquah said, “Too many good students have trouble financing their education and we thank Yfm for partnering with us in our contribution to society by helping those students achieve their dreams.”
Over the next two weeks of the competition, applications came in from Kumasi, Accra and Wassa West as people sent in their transcripts and letters of motivation stating why they deserved to win a scholarship. Although it was a tough process narrowing down the candidates, LUCAS College was able to find deserving applicants who met all the requirements.
With the announcement set to take place on the September 9th Open Day, applicants were invited to take a tour of the campus and learn more about LUCAS College. Visitors learned about LUCAS programmes, courses and approach towards education. Once that was done, LUCAS College declared the winners of the Scholarship Competition.
Ebenezer Agorhom, a teacher in Western Region, never dreamed that he would win when he sent in his application. However, he was one of the fortunate winners who was awarded a 60% scholarship to attend LUCAS College. He said with joy, “I’ve been trying to win scholarships for some time and I’m so happy I won this scholarship. This will be a transformational moment in my academic and career life.”
In total, eight candidates were awarded over 200% in scholarships even though only 4 were able to attend to receive their rewards. The winners couldn’t have been happier and now, they look forward to continuing their studies at LUCAS College and building successful careers.
